Summer is here, which for many of us means one important thing: vacation season! But before you head out on a trip or pack your schedule with activities, make room in your calendar for your family’s dental exams!

Sure, this may not seem like an obvious time to be thinking about your oral health, but the truth is, visiting the dentist right now is a smart idea. Here’s why!

Ample Free Time

During the summer months, we tend to have a bit more room in our schedule to not only attend important appointments like dental exams, but also address any issues that may arise during your visit. Need a filling or root canal? Why not book it now before your schedule fills up again in the fall. You’ll feel better, and you’ll be less stressed because you’re much less rushed.

Furthermore, if you or your child do need dental intervention, you’ll have plenty of time to recuperate before they need to return to work or the classroom.

Get Back-To-School Ready

Did you know that according to the Surgeon General, American children miss 51 million hours of school each year due to oral health problems? Don’t start the school year off on the wrong foot. Schedule your child’s dental exam during the summer months so that their dentist can correct any issues while they have no school so that dental pain or emergency procedures don’t cause them to miss valuable instructional time during the regular semester.

Prevent Dental Emergencies

Do your children play summer sports or lead an active lifestyle? Dental emergencies can happen at any time, and sports injuries are a very common cause. If you have a child enrolled in summer sports, get ready to play defense when it comes to their oral health! Custom fit mouth guards are the gold standard in protecting your kids’ teeth during sports. They can help prevent chips, cracks, or even lost teeth due to falls, equipment accidents, or other injuries.

Summer School

Nobody wants to go to summer school, but when it comes to your family’s oral health, it’s the perfect season to brush up on oral health skills. Use the break to check that your kids are brushing at least twice a day for at least two minutes each time, flossing at least once a day between each tooth, and not consuming too many sticky sweets or sugary beverages.

Pics Or It Didn’t Happen!

Finally, before jetting off on your next family adventure, make sure you’re all ready for your closeup! Schedule your family’s next exam and cleaning before you hit the road so your smiles will be as bright as the summer sun in your vacation photos!
